In recent years Debs has been working in South Africa, managing the career and Olympic qualification campaign of South Africa’s dressage hopeful, Andre La Conte. She was responsible for orchestrating his marketing and fund raising efforts, plus being solely responsible for the training or his advanced dressage horses while he is regularly out of the country. She has been training young event riders in South Africa too as well as giving lessons on her Grand Prix schoolmaster.
Prior to this Debs worked with Camilla Kruger and helped her in her campaign to qualify for RIO2016 in Eventing for Zimbabwe. Camilla achieved this and competed successfully at the 2016 Games, where Debs was reserve Chef D’Equipe for the Zimbabwe team.
Debs herself is a trained BD judge and Group 2 rider (Inter1 & 2) but also used to showjump at grade A level in her younger years. She also judged in South Africa at Medium level. Debs was shortlisted for National Teams as a teenager and was very lucky to have trained with some fabulous people including Jenny Loriston-Clarke, Graham Oldfield, Clare Graham, Leonie & Barry Marshall, Emile Faurie, Sarah Cheetham …. To name a few.
She is passionate about grass-roots training and believes that everyone, no matter what they are riding, can accomplish a very smart dressage test to a high level. She specialises in training in a way that everyone can understand, no jargon … just plain English, using body positioning and understanding how this affects the horse & rider balance, making the whole process enjoyable and stress free.
